EXTRA CREDIT: OPTION 2
Oedipus Rex
You have finished
reading the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, and the class has been exploring
the conflicts introduced in the play. Based on the outcome, who seems to be most at fault? Apollo? Oedipus? Jocasta? Or was
it fate?
PREWRITING
Decide which
of the characters listed above is most at fault for the outcome of the play. Create a list of reasons, with textual evidence,
to support your decision.
DRAFTING
Introduce
your topic in the first paragraph, being sure to end with a thesis statement. Your thesis statement
should include who you believe is the most sponsible. In your body paragraphs, make sure that you begin by discussing the
situation surrounding Oedipus. Further body paragraphs should give several reasons why you believe the person/fate mentioned
in your thesis statement is most responsible for the tragedy. Also, be sure to examine why the others are NOT as much at fault
for the outcome.
CONCLUSION
End the conclusion
by challenging your reader in some way. In other words, your conclusion should be thought-provoking.
PROOF READING/EDITING
Do a final proofreading
of your essay, double-checking your grammar, spelling, organization, and the clarity of your ideas.
